#1178: SEO for Large Sites & Companies
If you’ve been in the SEO industry for a while, you’ve probably come across some pretty large and challenging websites to optimize. It’s no doubt that a large website can be a very intimidating beast! You absolutely MUST approach it differently than your normal 10-20 page website, or you are absolutely destined to crash and burn.
For our purposes, I’ll define a large site as one that has 100 or more pages (could be dynamic or static). And chances are if you’re working on a site of this proportion, then there is probably a lot of money on the line.…

Today, I’ve decided to challenge myself a little bit. Every SEO can probably come up with a top 10 seo list no problem! I’ve probably done that more than a few times, so I’ve decided to up the ante…to 100 quick SEO tips! I’ll be doing this as a 2-part series over the next week!
Now, I’m not going to go into detail on each SEO tip (who wants to read all that anyway when you could be out drinking a beer), but you’ll get the idea! I’m pretty sure that my head will explode at some point during this…

Over the last couple of years, I’ve noticed that ranking factors for local search engines are vastly different from normal organic ranking factors. Like natural search, there are so many factors that go into how a listing will rank.
Unlike natural search engines, local search engines place emphasis on totally different areas. While the basic fundamentals are still the same, if you don’t place your cookies in the right jar you’ll have little hope of doing well in the local search engines.
So what are the factors? Before, it was hard to say and many SEO’s could only speculate. Lucky…

In today’s SEO world, everyone knows how important getting “quality” inbound links is. However, many people simply do not know how to go about asking for links. I’ll be the first to tell you, building links is HARD!
I recently had a comment left on my blog by a user (who will go un-named) asking for a link exchange. Now I’m not shy about linking out to somebody if they go about asking the right way, but this user’s request left me a little turned off:
Very nice to visit your blog and found very interesting. I

Flash-based websites can be the bane of any SEO’s existence. I’ve seen it a million times! Webmasters or site owners have come to me with a beautiful Flash-based website, but with one common problem. Their website can’t get any pages indexed!
The problem with Flash is that like images, it can’t be indexed by the search engines. So while you see a beautiful and user-friendly website, search engines see a giant blank spot where content should be. Kind of like a gravitational field with no planet in the middle of it!
Don’t get me wrong, search engines ARE actively working…

I was asked to write about the reasons why having a web developer/designer handle your SEO at the time of development is not enough. This may seem trivial, but I run into it regularly.
Many times, I start talking about SEO and the potential client feed me stuff like, “oh, my web developer handled that.” Well, I’m here to tell you this, developers / designers that know SEO is the exception, not the rule!
The Issues
Mention the word SEO around developers / designers and I’m sure they will say they get it, but it is usually with a groan,…
