Happy Belated Thoughts from the 2010 Ohio Growth Summit

Wow! It’s been a busy two weeks. Much to my chagrin, I haven’t even had time to look at my blog (which I’m normally religious about) let alone write a post.

Happy Belated Thoughts from the 2010 Ohio Growth Summit

Since being a part of the Personal Branding Panel at the Ohio Growth Summit earlier this month, I’ve barely had time to breathe.

I’ve started a new quarter in school, began doing the P90X fitness program, started planning my wedding, and am working on more clients than ever at this job thingamajig. Pretty busy eh!

I’ve been trying to make some time to cut together and edit the Personal Branding panel video that I took, as well as add my thoughts about the event as a whole. Unfortunately, I’ve had some technical difficulties with the video and lack of time to edit anyhow, so I just thought I’d get something out there. I realize I’m about 2 weeks behind everyone else, but better late than never!

My experience at this year’s Ohio Growth Summit was pretty rewarding. As part of the Personal Branding Panel, I was able to meet some pretty amazing people including Artie Isaac, Shane Haggerty, Amy Parrish, Jason Yun, Andrew Brush, Tyler Durbin, Rocky Van Brimmer, and out-of-towner Desarae Veit. Although the theme of the two hour panel seemed to steer towards looking good naked, I thought there were some excellent discussions, agreements, disagreements, and the experience was generally fun!

After the panel was over, we were able to split out into break-out sessions. I chose to go to my good-buddy Nate Riggs‘ breakout session entitled, “Amazingly Helpful Technology Tools That Can Help Your Business Right Now.” I thought Nate did a great job breaking down 52 free and paid tools that can help any business-owner operate as close to a budget of zero as possible.

Nate did so well in fact, that every single person in the room (there were many) stayed well past the 2-hour cut-off point to hear Nate finish his presentation which ran a little long due to our questions. Nate is a great speaker and that just goes to show how people are willing to listen when you have something good to say! I would archive the tools for you (as I couldn’t find a link on Nate’s site summarizing), but then I’d have to kill you. I recommend just coming and listening to Nate for yourself.

Unfortunately, I had to leave before hearing Carrie Wilkerson’s (aka ‘The Barefoot Executive’) keynote speech which I heard rocked. I heard that she really hit the mark with her “Fill Your Stadium” theme. According to Michael Bowers (the event’s head guy), she “did everything a keynote is supposed to do…provide valuable content and motivate the audience to take action.” Now that’s some high praise!

Another special mention should go out to Gina Bericchia who was absolutely vital in organizing the branding panel as well as several other functions at OGS10. Congrats on a job well done Gina!

Overall, I considered the 2010 Ohio Growth Summit to be a success in that I think we all collaborated, communicated, and hopefully gave people some ideas and guidance that they could take and run with to improve their own businesses marketing and branding strategies.

Note: I’m efforting to get some of the video i shot from the branding panel online, but am having some technical difficulties. I’d like to post something here soon. Stay tuned.
