Hello Jecob, I would really appreciate this post and all those relevant 10 points explained really well. What I would say in addition of this is to emphasis on 4'th point, The research one. Yes, I admit this is the most important segment for any SEO work before actually starting it.
We have some SEO tool which automatically reduces this "Research" effort. Scrapebox is one of the great tool from the available one as it harvests the links and provide the high PR deeplinks from the competitors space. I would really love to share that I created a most suitable video tutorial on learninf Scrapebox that gives rise in reducing the "Research" somewhat or at some extant.

I think a good SEO should have free mind to test new changes and see the results…..over the time period google algorithm and technology has changed….and the thing which i observed in forums discussions, that most SEO's still try old seo techniques which shows lack of change as per requirements or limited knowledge

One should be enough capable to adopt new changes as per changing environment and technology which keeps you standing on top in this niche

Great post. I'd add the importance of critical thinking and the ability to see shades of gray. Sometimes, it feels like people take what is a good piece of advice, but they fail to understand the entire context in which it was given. Example: Yes, the meta description is good for SEO, but no, it's not a ranking factor. For some, that's all too subtle a distinction.

I tend to agree with you that a good SEO possesses all of those things. I put emphasis on having a marketing mindset when it comes to SEO, having a marketing background and understanding along with thinking outside of the box are very important. People tend to forget that SEO isn't just throwing in keywords to get “rankings”, it's a whole lot more, it encompasses so much

Very good list, but I would probably have Creativity toward the top of the list. Thinking outside of the box is definitely a big piece for standing out from the crowd.
